Discipline as a tool for academic excellence

                    A TRUE LIFE STORY
Discipline from my own understanding is the act of doing what is right at the right time. It can also be used to describe the term "punishment", as many book of taught may defined it.

Since I became a grown up, I have noticed that the success of everything partly rely on discipline. Discipline runs through all aspect of life. Education, health, political, and religious aspects of life.

Even the development of a country may depend on how discipline the people in the country are. However, a country which entertains indiscipline may always lag behind in terms of development compared to a country who enforce discipline by
putting disciplinary measures in place.

Similarly, on the aspect of education, discipline is a panacea  for academic excellence. Setting as an example, my indiscipline lifestyle caused me to be repeated in primary one.
In 2003, as a six year l boy, I always wanted to skip class for no reason. My brothers had to avoid persuasion and apply force to ensure that I'm bathed, and groomed well and intimidated before I could develop appetite to go to school. All these lacks played slight role in my catch up in academics in the latter years. Having repeated once, I now came back to my senses and began to sit up for studies.
As a matter of fact, for someone who was always last in class, became the first person to be called for every school competition concerning academics.

Beside that, as a young boy who happened to be last in class always, now became the the topper of the class and this continued  throughout my days at JHS, and SHS.

On the contrary, personally I have realized from most of my colleagues who were indiscipline always being the last in class. Many of them were punished because of their indiscipline act, and many too would not pay attention even when a teacher is teaching. As they end up not to understanding certain things taught and this make them fumble during exams.

Indiscipline also caused for examination stress in most of my colleagues. Student may spend all their time doing unnecessary things instead of studying. At the end, they enter the exams hall with empty head, foreign materials, and try to giraffe to get answers written from the nearest student in the examination hall. All these put stress on them, because they do all these in a special way so they will not be caught.
This is also a major cause of examination failure (Bio, 2020).

Many personalities have expressed their views on this fact that education remains a panacea for academic excellence.

According to Mrs Akosua Aseidu Ntriakwa, Head of Women and Children Ministry of Mid-South Ghana Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church , she has observed that discipline is the only panacea for students to chalk academic excellence and success.
She urged students, especially the girl-child, to desist from pre-marital sex and other social vices which could truncate their vision of climbing higher on the educational ladder(GNA, 2012).

Numerous book of taught and certain organizations have noted reasons why discipline remains a panacea for academic excellence. According to Future ready education (2020), Discipline;

1. Creates a stress-free environment

One of the basic benefits of being disciplined is a stress-free life. It is very important to relax because our brain needs to detox and rest in order to function with optimal capacity. By disciplining, one can learn to apportion time to various activities, including rest.

2. Eliminates stress from student life

This is one of the most prominent impacts that discipline has on the learning process. It is important for every student to have a set routine to avoid the last-minute hustle. Discipline helps at maintaining and following the daily routine properly.

3. Helps Students Get Better Grades

This is the ultimate goal of every student’s life and it is very important for every student to be disciplined at all times. By being disciplined, a student will be able to spend more time studying. And the more time you spend studying, the better your grades become.

4. It Moulds Students’ Character

Another benefit of being disciplined is that it helps mould students’ character. And it’s hardly surprising because a positive attitude towards studies (and life) is the inherent benefit derived from being disciplined.

5. Enhances and encourages students’ motivation

There is no denying the fact that student life is not always easy. However, staying disciplined will keep your motivation fire burning and help you get the best out of education.

6. Sets a Good Example For Others to Follow

Positive classroom discipline sets a good example for others to follow. Disciplined and diligent students serve as role models for their classmates, but instead of secretly wishing to be like them, you should instil the same self-discipline in yourself. That way, you’ll be able to catch up with them (or even surpass them) in no time at all.

Comparatively, I personally testify to the fact that the above points raised are of no doubt in ensuring academic excellence because throughout my life Spent in school, all my academic achievements does not fall outside the scope of these points. This is because the route cause of numerous academic excellence I have obtained previously and currently never happened on the silver platter, but most of the source are attributed to all or part of these regarding the relevant of discipline many books have revealed
